No Easy Road: Unlearning Discrimination in Oregon
July 1 - August 30, 2002

Oregonians have many reasons to feel proud of their state. Their history has had bumps in the road, however, that have caused pain and suffering for some of Oregon’s population. Oregonians have found ways to exclude people since the first settlers made their way across the Oregon Trail. In the past 200 years, they have discriminated against people–Native Americans, Chinese, Japanese, African Americans, to name but a few–who were perceived to be different. The reasons for discrimination varied. "No Easy Road," a traveling exhibit developed by American Jewish Committee – Portland Chapter explored the history of discrimination in Oregon.
